Hi Patonio, how tall are we talking? Are you planning to make them from sugarpaste (fondant) or cake? 🙂

I am planning to make it from sugarpaste. About 12cm(5in tall). I am thinking to use flower wire then cover it on brown foundant. But I don’t know how to make the leaves and make it look realistic.
I saw a great idea recently (can’t remember where so can’t credit anyone!) and they had made trees by dipping a grape vine in chocolate. They left them bare as it was a winter themed cake but you could then pipe leaves all over. Remember to eat the grapes first 🙂
Hi Patonia
Your idea of making the tree with wire is really great but might be time consuming as you’d have to twist and bind each branch and then build the fondant or chocolate on to give it depth. The leaves can be piped on with green royal icing using the small leaf nozzle. Doodlecake’s idea is easier (and you get to eat the grapes yum). Colour up some desiccated coconut or rice krispies green. Collect the grape vines and tie a piece of string on the ends, this will be for hanging them upside down with. Dip the vines into melted chocolate, and roll them into the coconut/krispes until covered. Hang each tree upside down on a drying rack until set. They can be stuck down onto the cake with a little melted chocolate which won’t be noticeable if you are making a chocolatey coloured forest floor. Another way is to make fondant cones and again using the leaf piping nozzel pipe small leaves until the cones are covered, this way you can make the trees as tall as you want. In the Pepe Pig tutorial http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/peppa-pig-cake, Paul shows another technique and is probably the best. More branches can be added and leaves piped on instead of the cut out variety! I’m sure other members will contribute more ideas.
Thanks all for the ideas.
