Icing sugar covered fondant!

HI I am using the purple regal ice and it was sticking to my surface so used icing sugar and ow even with smothers I cannot get it back to the vibrant colour, any suggestions? I can’t keep smoothing it as have used buttercream for crumb coating and I’ve tried so much with the smothers it’s breaking down the sugarpaste! Help please

Try getting a ball of the same sugarpaste and squash it and rub it on the board a bit to give it a flat surface. Now rub it gently all over your fondant. It should pick up all the stray icing sugar. I always do this to polish my fondant cakes – works a treat. Good luck with sorting it out.

Hello simpers

I usually spray my dulled fondant with PME glaze or rub a very small amount of shortening into my hands and smooth all over the cake. I have also steamed cakes with a small hand held steamer but don’t recommend you try on a cake which is ready for delivery. Here http://www.ehow.com/how_8720596_make-fondant-glossy.html is some information which may also be useful. There is section which covers dulled colour and how to repair. Hope it helps.

Thanks very much both of you had to end up dampening it a bit and now have switched to cornflour instead as that seems easier to dust off, cheers
