2. How the Money Works

This is the the bit everyone wants to know about. In this lesson, we explain the sales funnel and payment methods for booking through Eventbrite.

For bookings listed on the PBSS website, we absorb Eventbrite fees – the notes below include details of the commission charged on bookings made on courses listed on the PBSS website, which are not included in the video, so make sure to take a look at these too.

3. How the VAT Affects You

This video is well worth viewing and understanding as there is a lot to consider with the set-up of your business and how VAT will affect you. If operating from outside the UK, different rules may apply and if you are based outside the EU it is certainly worth consulting a professional tax adviser.

4. Your Business Plan

This is the most important of any of the lessons in this section. When you create your business plan, focus on what you want your business to look like and set clear, manageable objectives in order to achieve this.

The importance of regularly reviewing your business plan can not be underestimated. Statistically, the majority of businesses that fail, do not have a business plan and the owners seek to blame everyone and everything but themselves. As a business owner you are the boss, so be accountable to yourself or find someone that you report to to go through your plan with you. There are numerous free local mentoring groups available so it’s well worth approaching one.

6. Shout About Your Courses

Your courses are yours to fill and while online marketing is crucial and very effective, there are a number of activities that you should get involved in at a local level to encourage engagement.

Just sitting back and waiting, especially in the early stages, will not get you the results that you are likely to be expecting. Similarly, it will take time and patience at the beginning for interest to build up and places to fill, so don’t let this demotivate you – everybody is in the same position at the start. If you are stuck for ideas for promotional activities, have a read through these:

7. Effective Online Marketing

This is where we have a wealth of knowledge and experience – we will be pushing a lot of traffic to the courses pages on the PBSS website, where you can choose to have courses listed, as well as providing marketing support via email and social media. However, there are a number of activities that you should consider for your own online marketing efforts which are outlined in this lesson.

8. Your Course Terms & Conditions + Joining Instructions

It’s important to have Terms & Conditions available for all students to see. This will protect you when it comes to dealing with disputes and ensures that both you and the student can refer to them, especially your cancellation and refund policy.

At least a week before the course, you should send out a Joining Instructions email to give details of the course, what to bring, travel information etc. This will remind them of the course and ensure that any questions are answered before you start to get an inbox full of the same questions.

9. Preparing for the Accredited Tutor Assessment Event

Most of you will be nervous to one degree or another, but rest assured that the first three days are all about coaching and helping one another with lots of guidance and advice available. We will do our utmost throughout the week to create as relaxed and open an environment as possible, and to make sure there are plenty of laughs, as well as cake and ganache!

During the Assessment Event, you will be taught the Designer Handbag course and will be teaching lessons from the ChocolateWrapIntroduction and Teddy Bear courses.
