Highlights
Here we have carefully selected the key parts from the entire tutorial and condensed it into an 5 min long video. More than enough to get you started without taking too much time.
1. Working on the board
To kick us off, Zoe shows us how to texture the board with a lovely ground textured effect using only tin foil. She then shows us how to bring it to life with airbrush work.
2. Carving the head
Zoe shows us how to carve the cake to the shape of a tiger’s head using small, but well thought out, cuts using a sharp cutting knife. The features, such as the eyes, will be built up later with sugarpaste as opposed to being carved at this stage.
3. Building up the features
Zoe adds facial features to the tiger using pieces of modelling chocolate, which she then blends into the cake using the dresden tool.
4. Covering the cake
Zoe then rolls out a large piece of sugarpaste – around 4mm in thickness – and works it around the facial features.
5. Adding texture
Zoe completes the eyes by building the outer parts with pieces of sugarpaste and blends them into the face. She then adds texture using the dresden tool, mimicking what she sees in her reference picture, paying attention to hair length and direction.
6. Adding fur detail
Zoe adds fur textures and shares a great technique for creating the ruffles of hair that surround the tiger’s face.
7. Finishing touches
Zoe adds the finishing touches of airbrushing and completes the nose and eyes with a little edible glaze to really bring it to life.
8. Other ideas
Zoe shares some other ideas you can try out when making this cake. We’re sure you have some of your own great ideas and we’d love to see what you come up with.
