Hi everyone,

I need one suggestion, I am making the jungle carousel cake, but my son doesn’t really like RKT. Is there anything else that can be used for canopy and side decoration.
I was thinking of using cake pops and covering them with buttercream using grass nozzle but I am not sure whether it will work out or not.

Was just wondering why your little man doesn’t like RKT. Is it the rice krispies that he doesn’t like? If it is, you could make similar with cornflakes. This would make all the jagged pieces which brings the canopy’s shape to life.
If he doesn’t like the marshmallows, you could use melted chocolate instead. Another suggestion would be cinder toffee/ honey comb?? There are lots of recipes online, not difficult to make and very light. Your own idea sounds good to me as long as you bear in mind the weight and support the top accordingly. Hopefully other members will also have some fresh ideas.

You are right, all that cake pops will add too much weight and that dowel might not be able to hold it, since it will spin too.
Although I have electric turn table from turn table 360, that I used for original carousel cake, so I might make it in the form of original carousel …with 6 inch and 8 inch cake on a 10 inch board , and rest same as jungle carousel with dowel in centre and RKT tree canopy on top.

I was going to suggest that to you Neha as I remember you making the original carousel cake. That 360 turntable is great, I use mine for all sorts of cakes, didn’t realise how useful it would be. Hope your little one has a great birthday! x

Sorry to bother again, but I am making jungle carousel and dowel with glue isnt working for me, no matter how much I try but dowel doesnt stand firm ,.

I cant imagine outting whole canopy on it, do you think I should fix dowel to board with a nail.

Hi Neha

Make sure the hole which you drill is very snug and then it should hold with the glue. If you can nail it without splitting the dowel, try it and see if it holds.

Just wanted to thank you for all your suggestions. I made the cake successfully and it was a hit. Party went fine and everyone was mesmerized with the beauty of cake. My son was super duper excited with the animals.

Nice way to teach them, he kept on singing “Old McDonald” , though there were no farm animals.
