Attaching edible paper on sugarpaste

I want to make a handbag cake and have to put a LV edible design on the bag. I am using a printed deign on an A4 sheet. I wondered if i should put the design for the sides of the bag onto the sugarpaste before putting onto the cake, or cover panels of sugarpaste with the edible wafer paper first, then attach it to the cake? Will I be able to cut through it to neaten of the edges once the design is on, ?

If it was me doing this, I would cover the cake first and then apply the design. I’ve done it this way on most of my projects. Wafer paper is fickle, it needs the slighest of moisture to prevent it crinkling. As long as you use a clean, very sharp knife, the paper will cut neatly.
Hopefully more membes will share their experience.

EDIT: Try also trex or piping gel as glue. Experiment first and use the one which gives the best results. x
