Using cake separators

I have a 5 tier wedding cake to do that has separators in between each tier. I was going to use polystyrene cake dummies to minimise weight and keep the depth of the dummy to around 1.5″, this will then be covered in ribbon. If I dowel the tiers will the polystyrene dummies be suitable I use as separators ? I was going to use royal icing to fix in place will this be secure enough? Also for maximum support I was going to keep the separators to 1″ less circumference than the tier it’s supporting so it will only be slightly recessed.

My main concern was the weight and stability

Hi KWillers

Type in the search box ‘separators’ to see a couple of answers
which may help. I would set the links for you but my phone is
playing silly beggars. Hope you find the threads helpful.
