Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Friendly Dragon Cake size
Hi,
I downloaded the pdf for friendly dragon cake and when I took the printout, the body seems to be 7.2inches and the head to be 3.2 inches (long).
I have searched the Q&A section and found answers that body is 8 inches in dia, so I just want to know why my sizes are small,am I doing something wrong?
I can cut the body part in 8 inch dia but I will need correct template for head.
Any suggestions will be helpful.
Thanks

Hi Neha
The download is the actual size for the head and body. The legs and neck have to be the sizes stipulated. The slight difference may be due to the settings on your printer. If you want to make the body 8″ and the head in proportion just draw around the printout making it slightly larger. If you’re not happy to do that, please contact designer-cakes.com for further advice from the site’s customer service dept.
Hi
So I started working on structure , got confused again. Can you please tell me the exact length and width if the be k and legs. I know neck length is 7 inch, rest is big confusion .
Thanks
Hi Neha
The neck and legs are all 7″. Download the template as seen on the site. The instructions are to cut two semi circles, stick them together to create a whole 8″circle. Use the marks on the template to measure in for the holes where the dowels will be inserted. This will give you all the placements for the legs and the neck. Each leg dowel is 7″ in height and so is the neck. The cake is 8″ round but it will be carved to shape the dragon. However it will still remain the same size as you will only be shaping.
HI MIWL,
The dragon legs in video looks smaller than the neck, should I ask handyman to cut neck and legs in 7inches height. Template says 3 inches for dowel, does it mean 3 inches width of dowel? or what 3 inches represents.
Sorry for all the questions but I am explaining it to the man doing structure and its all very confusing.
I gave him the screen shot of structure from video tutorials and he says hat legs are smallerin size than neck
… so had another look at the template Neha, and yes it is a little confusing and I’ve added to that confusion!
The legs are 3″ tall and the neck is 7″ tall. Sorry for causing you stress. Do you think the guy will make it for you now? 🙂
Yes he would do that. Just one more thing., I need the diameter of dowel too
Standard dowels 9mm or you could use 15mm. Anything above that will a bit too chunky. Hope all goes good!
