I have been obsessed with cakes in one way or another all my life. As a child I would often be rustling something up in the kitchen when unexpected visitors arrived (my mother hated cooking!). I however continued to bake as my family came along and went to my first ‘proper’ cake decorating class in 1988. It was all royal icing and formal piping back then, with sugarpaste considered a dreadful cheat!
Despite this, my obsession had begun. I took my City & Guilds qualifications in Sugarcraft and finally began teaching my own classes at various adult education colleges in the 1990s. Since then, the world of sugarcraft has exploded and it has truly become a world of artistry and fantasy designs. Most people who come to my classes, however, simply want to achieve a birthday or wedding cake to be proud of and it is this that gives me the most enormous satisfaction.
I am also a practising primary school teacher which allows me to indulge in the messy, fun world of five year olds wielding icing bags over cupcakes. So whether you are a nervous beginner or a more advanced student, I have classes to suit your needs. Either way they are fun days out in my sunny, spacious studio with lots of laughter and at the end of the day, a cake with real ‘wow’ factor!
