Background of the Great British Bake Off

The Great British Bake Off is a competitive baking show that first aired in the United Kingdom in 2010. The show features amateur bakers competing in a series of challenges to determine who will be crowned the “Great British Bake Off” champion.

The show is hosted by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, and the judges are Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. The show has been a huge success, with over 10 million viewers tuning in for the final episode of the 2015 series.

The Great British Bake Off has been praised for its wholesome and heartwarming content, as well as its focus on amateur bakers. The show has also been credited with helping to revive interest in baking in the United Kingdom.

In 2016, the show was sold to Channel 4 after the BBC declined to renew its contract. The move was met with some controversy, but the show has continued to be a success on Channel 4.

The Great British Bake Off has been adapted for other countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The American version of the show is called “The Great American Baking Show” and airs on ABC.

The Great British Bake Off has become a cultural phenomenon, and it has been credited with helping to bring people together. The show is a reminder that baking is not just about food, but also about community and creativity.

On top of having an immaculately layered sponge, it also featured an incredible spinning sugar windmill and a passion fruit filled choux. Learn how you can make your very own croquembouche here.
