Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Transporting cake in heat on public transport
Hi everyone
Any recommendations on how I can transport a cake (Paul’s camera cake, without tripod) to London from Essex on the train in 25+° C heat?
Not looking forward to it but only option to get it there.
Any advice most welcome, thank you in advance.

Hi Vicki
In such heat it will certainly be pretty tricky since you won’t have the protection of an airconditoned vehicle. I would transport the cake in a very cold insulated box and keep it out of the sun as much as possible. I haven’t travelled in trains in such a long time that I have no idea what kind of ventillation they have on board. Might be worth asking if they have air conditioned coaches or if they have a particularly cool place on the train where the cake could be stored. Good luck! 🙂
I’m hoping that my reply might encourage you. I have traveled with a large carousel cake with all parts attached that I placed in a strong hand made cardboard box and then that in a nylon/ plastic bag and that in an insullated large picnic type bag. I traveled for over 2 hours changing buses twice and in the Israeli heat of early summer. All arrived well 🙂 If I can do it, you can do it 🙂 Best of luck!
