Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Large edible image with high quality!
Hi,
I’ve been asked to make Frued’s couch (with it’s famous rug on) for 40 people. I’m making a cake 11″ by 15″. I have downloaded the image but I don’t know how to print it large enough to be able to throw it on the cake loosely. I’ve contacted the cake decorating company and they’ve said if they print it on an A3 edible sheet, it will become blurry.
Do you have any suggestions please? I’m desperate for an advice! I don’t even know how to print it in sections myself (I have A4 printer) without making it blurry!

Hi Sanaz
Unfortunately the resolution of the images online are of poor quality and that is why when the images get blown up they blur badly.
In principle an image can be printed on A4 over two pages. Simply put it in landscape and set the printer up to print all and it will print it on two separate sheets, which can be lined up on the cake. An A4 sheet is approximately 11″ x 4″.
However if you want a high resolution image you’d have to go back to the source of the image to ask the author to obtain a high resolution copy. There is likely to be a charge for this. Alternatively, as this is a depiction of art, you do have artistic licence to paint the image. It doesn’t have to be an exact copy.
I hope suggestions help. Let me know how you get on. 🙂
