Entries
Sunflower Cake by Pamela Greene
My cake inspired by Shawna McGreevy’s flower pot cake tutorial, and Paul Bradford’s sunflower tutorial. I didn’t have the hours for Paul’s exact flower, so I used his 1/2 styrofoam ball method on my “cutter” sunflower. It worked!! I finally got a sunflower to stand up. I was so thankful for Paul’s tutorial.”
Anniversary Cake by Susan Devenport
“This anniversary cake was for a collector of classic cars they were having a vintage summer party in their field the request was a cake topper modelled on one of their classic cars and set in a field with bunting round the side of the cake. I found some good tips from the vintage car cake tutorial.”
Suitcase Cake by Sue Pinnick
“This customer wanted to replicate her daughter’s suitcase with palm trees and a cocktail. I filled the cocktail glass with jelly!”
Shine Bright by Rico Rodriguez
“Shine Bright: There’s something a little bit luxe about Navy & Silver, especially when it’s for a Birthday Boy with taste. It’s covered in Swiss Meringue Buttercream which is airbrushed to a beautiful blue, then decked in Silver Leaf & finished with handmade Belgian Chocolate Spheres dusted Silver.”
Ella’s Cake by Margaret Shepherd
“This is to commemorate the passing of baby Ella last year. The family want to commemorate the day especially for there other little girl. Colours chosen by her, as they apparently were hers and Ella’s favourites. Mum is expecting another baby very soon.”
Weightlifting Cake by Jean Witte
“Inspired by Paul’s weight lifter cake and airbrushed with black, silver and grey after watching the spectrum flow airbrush videos. Cake was covered with the white sugarpaste fondant before being airbrushed!”
Love Wedding Cake by Geoff Nicholson
“I saw Paul’s number cake then had a wedding cake visit looking for a tiered cake we were done and to Jan my wife’s surprise I asked if they fancied something different and suggested a standing heart shaped cake so we tweaked it to a hanging cake tears of joy from the parents and couple.”
Hot Air balloon by Averil Sweeney
“I was asked to make a cake by my friend whose sister in law was coming over to the UK from Vietnam. She had not had a baby shower back home and this was to be a surprise for her. I was given free reign and immediately know I wanted to make the hot air balloon cake.”
Silver Cross Pram by Jill Farrell
“I made this cake for a demonstration I done in work. It’s an original design and wanted to create something that would bring people down memory lane , hence the Silver Cross pram.”
Cowgirl & Sunflower Cake by Miriam Pearson
“The sunflower I made as a trial for Cake International, but not being up to par for me, I turned it into part of my 52-week challenge where I am making new flowers, berries and learning a new technique every week. So I made the cake to display it on, my little Cowgirl and Sunflower Cake. Thanks.”
Minnie Mouse by Becks Emitati
“I made this cake for my friend’s 2 year old daughter who loooves Minnie Mouse.”
60th Birthday Cake by Carron Wilson
“I loved making this (and eating the cut offs!). The 120 individual buttons definitely had my eyes going wonky after a bit but it was worth it to get the details right. Used this as an opportunity to practice hand painting with the music symbols. I was very pleased with the outcome.”
Pink Marble by Troy-ann
“Paul has been a key part of my cake making journey. In fact, Paul’s videos were the inspiration I needed to get started and they are still what I look to when stuck for ideas or methods. I wanted to create a very crisp, elegant wedding cake which focused on the marbling and the sharp, clean lines.”
3rd place – Spaniel by Troy-Ann
“Paul has been a key part of my cake making journey. In fact, Paul’s videos were the inspiration I needed to get started and they are still what I look to when stuck for ideas or methods. This cake was created for a young man who popped the big question with the help of their trusty pet Spaniel.”
2nd place – Floral Delight by Lorraine Mcgarry
“I was setting up and had the final tier in my hands when the table collapsed and the 3 bottom tiers hit the floor. There was damage, but I put it to the back, cleaned off scuff marks and re stacked. Lucky for me the sugar flowers, sugar sculpture of bride and groom and giraffe were all on a different tables so to look at this cake from the front it looks like there is nothing wrong, but the back is a different story. It had split fondant and dints from those diamond things that they scattered on table.”
WINNER – Burger Cake by Dyan Rhodes
“An all cake challenge. With attention to detail for a rare meat eater. The burger was red velvet.”
