Soft royal icing

How do I make softer royal icing? I’m wanting to make a giant fondant fancy and need it sift fir the piped lines on top. I use the royal icing powder that you just add water to. Or is there a better way to add the piped white lines?

Hi Tomandhen123

The royal icing powder which you have can be used. Make it to a drizzling consistency so it can be piped into thin lines. Melted chocolate or candy melts can also be used. I used to use fondant icing sugar which is a specific pouring fondant icing for dipped fancies.

However, if you only want a small amount, what you already have will do the job. ?

Thank you, but would t it set too hard?

Yes, to an extent, but it won’t be rock hard because you’ll just be piping lines. If you were making a big amount, I’d suggest adding a tiny bit of glycerin to the royal icing which would stop it setting hard. The normal amount is one teaspoon to approximately 450 grams of royal icing. ?
