Baking 1 litre (2 pints) bowl

I am baking a 1 litre (2 pints) bowl. Do I use a 6-inch round cake mixture?

Also how long would I bake for?

Thank you in advance

Hi Tracey

For 3” deep cake you’ll need between 1.3 and 1.4 litres. For 2” deep cake you’ll need just under a litre. Both for 6” round.

Baking time will depend on the recipe which you haven’t mentioned. For a sponge I’d say about 40 minutes on 160c fan. Madeira and moist chocolate cakes will take slighter longer and possibly on lower heat because of their density. Best thing to do is baby sit the cake until done and take a note of the time for future bakes

Hope this helps. Please post back if you need more information ?

Thank you you have been a great help. I’m doing a maderia cake, so maybe 50 minutes xx

Yes about 50 minutes. I bake my 8” for approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

Just keep an eye and nose on how it’s doing. Madeira cake starts to crack as it begins to set in the middle. That’s a good indication that it’s near to fully baked. If you do open the oven to test it for doneness, try not to lose too much heat out of the open cavity?
