How to make a kid’s birthday cake?
It’s such a special time for a child, their birthday, a time that they will remember forever. Why not make it even more memorable by making an extra special birthday cake for them?
Decorating a cake for a kid’s birthday is not easy. You need to make sure that it looks good and tastes delicious. To help we have created a handy guide for you below and also some suggestions on what kind of cake you can make.

Which sponge?
A sponge cake is a dessert that is made with a cake batter and then baked in a tin or dish. It is typically light, spongy, and airy.
FREE – Easy Vanilla Sponge Cake
Victoria sponge cake and the similar vanilla sponge is a traditional British cake made from butter, sugar, eggs, flour and vanilla.
A chocolate sponge cake recipe has the same ingredients but it replaces the flour with cocoa powder.

A rainbow cake sponge is not your typical vanilla-flavoured sponge. It has different layers of colour that are typically red velvet, yellow buttercream, green coconut and blueberry flavours.

Then what?
In terms of baking, you will need to consider the shape of the creation you are making, no point in making a square sponge if you need a football-shaped cake!

Birthday Cake Top Tip
Use a toothpick or skewer to poke holes in the top of the cake so that you can insert the decorations into it!
