Baking time for 4″ cake

I’m baking Paul’s Moist Chocolate Cake but as a 4″ square. How long would you bake it for and should I use the same temperature or lower a bit? Worried about keep checking if it’s cooked as I already know the recipe doesn’t like the oven being opened too early!

Hi Leapyleo

How deep is your cake pan? as this will influence the timing. If it is the regular 3″ deep, I’d suggest approximately 50 minutes at the given temperature. This cake bakes better in a nonfan setting. The timing is not definite as all ovens bake differently, and your oven may take less/more time. However, keep an eye and nose on your bake, and don’t open the oven door to check until two-thirds of the way through the bake time. Open the oven door very slightly so as not to lose too much of the heat, and use a wooden skewer to check for doneness. The skewer will come out with just a few sticky crumbs when done.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it comes out ok. 🙂 Your feedback will be very welcome.

Thanks so much for your help – I baked it for 1hr 25 in the end but at 145 degrees and it was perfect 🙂

WoW! That’s wonderful, thank you so much for coming back with your results. This so helpful for other members who may need to scale right down. I’ve always baked this recipe on 150c non fan. I’m so happy for you. ⭐️❤️
