Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
crystals
I have had a request from a bride to put small swarovski crystals around the sides of her cake, maybe about three each side. Is it ok to attach these with royal icing or should they not be put on the cake at all. I thought if I put them on with royal icing they wouldnt have to touch the cake. Love the site find it so inspirational keep up the good work. Thanks again.

Hi Helen
If you have a look at the Hearts and Stars cake tutorial, I think Paul has used crystals going around the bottom of the cake. Hope this helps.
Hi Helen, I have used crystals on cakes, attached with royal icing, but on removable decorations rather than the cake itself. I would make sure you speak directly (in fact i would also get them to confirm via an email that you have told them) the caterer to ensure they know to remove them before cutting the cake. I wouldn’t rely on the bride to do this!
Or just thought, would she accept them stuck onto the ribbon instead of the cake?
Sorry, another thought! I know it won’t look the same but if she wants them stuck directly on the cake you could use edible crystals. You can buy them in Hobbycraft or online.
Thank you very much for the advise, I will definitely make sure I mention it to the Hotel staff and ask them to remove the crystal before cutting. Thanks for the help.
