How to bake a 4 inch high cake
I am trying to get my cake to rise to 4 inches with no success , I’m using a 9 inch wide by 4 inch high cake tin , I filled the pan to 2/3 but it came out 2/3 , it’s a lemon cake , this is my second try and it’s now costing too much to keep trying , any suggestions would be appreciated . Thanks
All my tins are 3″ deep..so if I want it taller I usually bake another cake and use another layer from the other cake I’ve baked. If you’ve got a 4″ deep tin and you cake isn’t rising are you quantities correct? Add a teaspoon of baking powder??
I sometimes bake in 3 sandwich tins and stack them together to give me more height, that way you won’t even need to try and cut them evenly, just level the tops and sandwich together. x
Thank you x
My tins are 3″ and usually I make a larger mix and bake slower and longer e.g for 3″ deep 8″ I use 6 egg for 4″ deep I use eggs. Or i could 2 shallow cakes and join them together. If your cakes arnt rising I’d check the rising agents like baking powder.
i have a 6inch madeira cake recipe which i bake in a 4inch deep tin and it comes out at 4inch plus a little more.,adapted from Mrs Jones madeira cake
