Piping nozzle & cake?

Hi guys,

One more Q, I’m from Sydney Australia & don’t have access to the PME tips, in order to pipe the teddy bear cake I have a Wilton 2D tip, is that ok? Or is there an eqvilant Wilton or alteco tip I can use?

Also, after I have finished baking the cake ( I plan to make a day or two before carving etc..) do I need to keep it in the fridge? Would it be too hard to carve? Or can I leave it in a air tight container instead on the bench top?

Thank you soooo much

Hi Meeraben

I can’t remember which size tip Paul uses but I should think an any star tip of a similar size should be fine. Temperatures in Sydney must be warming up by now, so you would be better off either freezing your cake or keeping it in the fridge. This cake carves and handles much better when cold, leaving it in an air tight container will make it too soft to carve well. Hope this helps.

Hi Meeraben

I have had a look at pictures of both nozzles but you can’t really tell how big the Wilton nozzle is. I suggest piping a few bits as on teddy and see if you think it looks small enough. You may need to bend the star tip out a bit. I have done this (carefully) and it can be returned to correct shape after use.

If you fancy buying any PME tips I am coming out to Sydney in January 2013 and could bring some over for you (no money in advance). Let me know via this site and I’ll give you my email address.

I never have room to put cakes in fridge so I just leave them in cardboard box on side (but then it’s never that hot here :-))

Hi madeitwithlove & Jayess,

Thank you both very much for your advice! Really appreciate this. As its warming up quickly here I will be Keeping my cake in the fridge.

Jayess thank you do much for the offer, I have managed to find one supplier here in Australia so have ordered the tips today, the baby shower I’m attempting the cake for is in a months time….. I really hope teddy works out for me! Wish me luck!

Thanks once again
Meeraben
