A Cake Life Review Of The Year

What a year it has been!

Unicorns, flamingos, drip cakes, mirror glaze, metallics, isomalt, the world’s largest edible elephant sculpture, Cake Life takes a look back at a small selection of memorable cake events and trends during 2017.

January – March 2017

17 – 19 March 2017 Cake International Birmingham spring show saw Karen Keaney of https://www.rosesandbowscakery.com/win Best in Show Overall with her decorative exhibit piece “Egbert and Monty”  Karen is now a Cake International Judge.

Georgia Ampelakiotou of  https://www.facebook.com/TourtesGeorgias won CI ‘International Best in Show’ with her beautiful piece in the International Class

Georgia is currently touring the world with her classes.

April – June 2017

Cake International 22 – 23 April Show at Alexandra Palace saw Nivia Maria Rodrigues de Melo win Best in Show Overall with her faultless wedding cake

created a 1.2 tonne elephant constructed mainly of cake, the elephant took Dot over 250 hours to sculpt.  Dot is passionate about wildlife, so combining her passion for art, sculpture and cake to create this incredible piece of edible art was a dream come true for this talented artist.  The objective of this project was to The objective of this project was to create awareness and educate the youth about the elephant plight in Africa  www.theelephantprojectsa.co.za

The elephant sculpture was carefully transported from Wellington, New Zealand, to be shown at the Good Food and Wine Show at the CTICC in South Africa.

Dot Klerck consequently won “Best Show Piece” at the Cake Masters Awards 4 November 2017 Birmingham.
