You may have seen this rather eye-catching cake (modelled above by the lovely Paul) floating about on social media recently?
The Forget Me Not cake sits at 4 feet tall with 5 tiers of cake. The support between the tiers is decorated with 100 hand blown glass baubles and over 100 fairy lights.
However, what makes this cake special is not so much the design but the cause that it was for.
There are over 90,000 living with Dementia in Scotland and this number is set to double in a generation, it’s so important that we provide people living with dementia and their families & friends the support they so desperately need.
Alzheimer Scotland – Action on Dementia, is the leading dementia organisation in Scotland. They campaign for the rights of people with dementia and their families and provide an extensive range of innovative and personalised support services.
They recently held their annual Forget Me Not ball which helps to raise funds for the organisation. The night was a huge success, with a whole host of games and items including the Forget Me Not cake managing to raise a total of over £25,500.
Thanks to the contributors and generous bidders, Alzheimer Scotland was able to raise a large amount of funding. However, to provide those living with dementia with the services they need and deserve it costs an incredible £115,000 a week.
The organisation are always looking for volunteers and keen fundraisers, and any donations – little or large can really help them to continue proving their valuable services.
