Highlights
A condensed video of all the highlights from this tutorial.
1. Carving/ Ganaching the cake
Paul shows us a clever way to turn a circular cake into a completely different shape. Paul then layers and then carves the cake to shape adding a layer of ganache all round the outside.
2. Covering the cake and board (2 parts)
Paul starts off by smoothing over the ganache with a brush and some warm water. Then it’s onto covering the cake in a large piece of white sugarpaste. Here we see an interesting way to cover and texture the board with the help of some edible dust.
3. Adding the jumper
In this lesson, Paul adds the jumper to the little baby boys body with the help of a lovely texture matt.
4. Adding the legs
In this lesson, Paul uses modelling paste and then wraps it in sugarpaste to create the legs and then helps keep them in place with a bamboo stick until they set.
5. Adding the arms and gloves
Here, Paul rolls out large sausages of sugarpaste to create the arms and then little balls of sugarpaste to create the hands. He brings the shape of the gloves out using PME modelling tools.
6. Making the head
Paul now gets out a polystyrene ball and then begins to carve it to shape using a serrated knife.
He then covers it in white sugarpaste and then another layer of flesh tone sugarpaste, which he then uses to bring out the facial features.
7. Adding the hat
Paul now adds the head to the cake and then creates the cute little hat.
8. Finishing the hat
Paul now finishes off the little boys’ hat.
9. Finishing touches
Paul adds the finishing touches to the design of the little boy.
10. Other ideas
Paul now shares some other ideas for cakes you could make using the skills and techniques learned in this video.
11. Pro lesson
Paul now shares important information for any Pro cake maker. Discussing such things as price and cost.
