Gold Leaf Handbag cake tutorial by Paul Bradford
Check out this stylish, yet simple to make gold leaf handbag design cake made by CakeFlix resident designer Paul Bradford. Choosing the regal colours of gold and royal blue work very well together to give a luxury looking finish. Join Paul as he takes you through all the simple steps to achieve this design.
In this tutorial you will learn how to:
- Carve a simple handbag shape from cake
- Ganache a 3D shaped cake
- Ice a 3D handbag shape achieving a very sharp finish
- Create a modern gold leaf pattern with eye catching style
Handbags are hugely popular for birthday celebrations and once you have mastered the cutting, carving and ganaching your designs are limitless. Paul filmed his first handbag tutorial for CakeFlix back in March 2012! Do you want to see it? Ok, click here but don’t tell Paul.
Designs have evolved hugely since then and become ever more adventurous. Some long term members will recall the cease and desist letter Paul received from Louis Vuitton when he was running his cake shop, so watch out and try to avoid copyright protected brands.
But don’t let that stop you, there are plenty of designs to check out. Lets start with the amazing Mayen Orido’s Hanging Handbag. This was the first gravity defying of its time and you could really pick it up using the handles. The very cute Ragdoll and Handbag cake by Valerie Letham was a huge hit when it was published on CakeFlix back in 2015, which just goes to show the depth of quality as well as quantity of tutorials on the CakeFlix website.
