Making Halloween Ghosts

Materials:

  • White fabric (such as muslin, cheesecloth, or lightweight cotton)
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing (such as polyester fiberfill, batting, or shredded newspaper)
  • Thread (white or black)
  • Needle
  • Black marker or fabric paint
  • White ribbon or yarn

Instructions:

  1. Cut the Fabric:
    • Cut a circle of fabric, approximately 18 inches in diameter.
    • For a more elongated ghost shape, cut an oval instead of a circle.
  2. Prepare the Fabric:
    • Fold the fabric in half, with the right sides together.
    • Press the folded edge to create a crisp crease.
  3. Sew the Fabric:
    • Using a running stitch, sew along the edge of the fabric, starting at the crease.
    • Leave a 2-inch opening for stuffing.
    • Make sure the stitches are small and even, to prevent the stuffing from coming out.
  4. Turn the Fabric Right Side Out:
    • Carefully turn the fabric right side out, using a point turner or a chopstick to push out the corners.
  5. Stuff the Fabric:
    • Generously stuff the fabric with your chosen stuffing material.
    • Distribute the stuffing evenly to create a plump and rounded ghost shape.
  6. Sew the Opening Closed:
    • Using a ladder stitch or a slip stitch, sew the opening closed.
    • Make sure the stitches are invisible from the front of the ghost.
  7. Draw the Ghost’s Face:
    • Use a black marker or fabric paint to draw a simple ghost face on the front of the ghost.
    • You can draw a wide range of expressions, from friendly to spooky.
  8. Add a Ribbon or Yarn:
    • Cut a piece of white ribbon or yarn, approximately 12 inches long.
    • Tie the ribbon or yarn around the ghost’s neck, creating a bow or a loop.
    • This will add a touch of charm and make it easier to hang the ghost.
  9. Hang Your Halloween Ghost:
    • Display your handmade Halloween ghost anywhere you like—from a doorknob to a tree branch.
    • Its ethereal appearance is sure to add a festive touch to your Halloween decorations.
