Highlights
Highlights from the marble and confetti drip cake.
1. Marbling the cake
This is a great technique to learn and once you start you’ll want to use this effect on a lot of your designs as it has an amazing effect.
Paul mixes the colours and explains how to get the best results, but as always with cakes design is subjective so it’s very much down to you.
NOTE: Paul starts with the cakes already covered. If you want to see how he covers double-barreled cakes in This Lesson.
2. Adding the confetti
Using a new technique Paul creates this amazing confetti that will taste delicious! He changes his mind on the finish design so watch to see how he explains his thought process.
3. Painting the confetti
Now that the confetti decoration is finished it looks like Paul made the right choice.
However, there’s not enough shine and bling so Paul brushes on some lovely colours to really bring this tier to life.
4. Airbrushing
5. Stacking the cakes
It’s now a case of bringing the three tiers together and you begin to see the amazing overall effect.
NOTE: Paul is using dummy cakes, but if stacking real cakes watch how Paul does it in this This Lesson.
6. Drip effect - This doesn’t work out!
As this is all about trial and error Paul explains why he had to move to Plan B when his drip effect didn’t work out.
As a cake decorator you’ll have to change things, find better ways and sometimes things just don’t go according to plan. See the next lesson for Paul’s Plan B.
7. Drip effect - Take two!
Paul tries some options off camera and comes to the conclusion that a royal icing run out consistency works best. But always try some on a vertical angle to make sure you have the right consistency.
8. Making wafer paper flower
It’s amazing what you can do with a pair of scissors and some wafer paper. Watch how Paul puts this lovely design together using the simplest of techniques.
9. Finishing touches
Now time for those all-important touches as Paul paints the drips, positions the flowers, places the cake topper and finishes with some bling around the mirror.
10. Other ideas
Paul shares with you some other ideas you can use with what you’ve learned during this cake tutorial.
11. Pro lesson
Paul shares with you everything a professional cake decorator needs to know for this design including pricing, time, costs etc.
