Highlights
Here we have carefully selected the key parts from the entire tutorial and condensed it into one 6 minute long video. More than enough to get you started without taking too much time.
1. Making the stamens, pistils and petals
Penny demonstrates how to make all the parts that make up the peony flower, using easy to follow techniques.
2. Dusting the pistils and petals
Penny demonstrates making the leaves, using three different cutters to produce the four leaves. You’ll also learn what to do when your flower paste dries and cracks.
3. Dusting and Painting
In this lesson, Penny shows us how to bring all the parts to life with some clever dust work, which involves using our fingers.
4. Arranging the flower
Penny shows us how to put all the pieces together using florist tape, a creative eye and a little creative licence. Penny is fairly flexible – as long as the flower has a nice healthy round shape – so get creative and have fun!
5. Completing the peony
Penny finishes the peony by adding the leaves.
6. Marking the cake pt 1
Penney demonstrates how to create templates. She uses them to mark her cake in preparation for doing some piped royal icing work.
7. Marking the cake pt 2
Penney continues using icing for her piped royal icing work.
8. Making the decorations
In this lesson, Penney shows us how to make lovely decorations, which will be added to the cake using Mexican paste.
9. Piping the top tier
Penney gets the pipings bags, nozzles and royal icing out and shows us how to me the cake look extra pretty, with some nice little techniques.
10. Piping the bottom tier
It’s as simple as counting to two or three and then pulling the nozzle away as you release your grip. See what lovely things you can do with little movements.
11. Piping the middle tier
Now for the plaque. Penney has made a design for Paul, but it’s very easy to make your own – and just see how pretty it can make the overall design!
12. Finishing touches
Penney stacks the cake putting it all together. She then adds the finishing touch – the peony flower.
