1. Making the board foodsafe
Before we start, we need to make the board food safe.
2. Stacking the cake
In this lesson, Kelly stacks the cake over the threaded rod then carves the body into the desired shape. Take your time and remember to factor in the arms, carving more narrow at the top.
3. Carving the cake
In this lesson, Kelly uses her template to carve out the body shape of her sea witch!
4. Ganaching
Now, it’s time to cover the cake in a smooth layer of ganache before we cover with sugarpaste. Kelly adds another thin layer of ganache off camera to make the cake a bit more sturdy.
5. Sculpting the head
Now it’s time to start bringing the head and face to life!

Kelly begins to skillfully shape the face using a few modelling tools.
7. Painting the face
Kelly adds some colour and depth to the face using a mixture of gel colours.

Kelly finishes painting the face by adding the eyes and lips.
9. Preparing the body
Kelly prepares the body by adding some lumps and bumps on to the ganache layer which adds texture to the cake once it is covered with sugarpaste.
10. Covering the body
Kelly shows you how to cover the body in sugarpaste then shape it into a dress.
11. Making the hair
Time to make those beautiful curls.
12. Adding the arms
In this lesson, Kelly adds the tentacle arms on to the body.
13. Painting the torso and hair
Next up, we add a little colour to the body which adds a bit more life to the cake.
14. Making the octopus
So now its time to add the cute wee octopus on top of her head!
15. Adding the seaweed
Kelly shows you how to make some great looking seaweed decorations for your cake.
16. Sculpting the tentacles
Now we’re moving on to these suckers!
17. Making the cauldron
For the next decoration, we’re making a cauldron using a polystyrene ball.

Time to add the detail to the tentacles.

Kelly shows you how to paint the cake to really make it stand out just like a competition piece should!

For finishing touches, Kelly adds some sand and a nice layer of glaze to give the cake a nice shine.
