History of Biscoff
Biscoff is a brand of caramelized biscuit cookies produced by the Belgian company Lotus Bakeries. The cookies were first created in 1932 by Jan Boone Sr., a baker from Lembeke, Belgium. Boone was inspired by the traditional British digestive biscuit, but he wanted to create a cookie that was more flavorful and caramelized.
Biscoff cookies quickly became popular in Belgium and were soon exported to other countries. In the 1950s, Lotus Bakeries began to sell Biscoff cookies in the United States. The cookies were initially marketed as a gourmet cookie, but they soon gained mainstream popularity.
In the 1990s, Lotus Bakeries introduced Biscoff spread, a spreadable version of the cookies. Biscoff spread quickly became popular as a topping for waffles, pancakes, and toast.
Today, Biscoff cookies and spread are sold in over 100 countries around the world. Lotus Bakeries is still a family-owned company, and the Boone family remains involved in the day-to-day operations of the business.
