1. Carving the Cake
As with any shaped cake spending time on carving is time well spent. The centrepiece dress of the Wedding Shower Cake is no exception and getting the sides to carry the shape is very important, although there will be plenty of sugarpaste decoration to hide the occasional lump and bump.

2. Ganaching the Cake - Part 1
The usual process here of in and out the fridge between ganaching sections to get the desired finish ready for the sugarpaste.

3. Ganaching the Cake - Part 2
The usual process here of in and out the fridge between ganaching sections to get the desired finish ready for the sugarpaste.

4. Inserting the Pole
Here’s the technical challenge, but just follow what Paul’s doing and you’ll get the cake to be gravity defying in no time!

5. Covering the Cake
Icing the cake in some stages of this cake can be tricky, but the steps are straightforward although you would certainly benefit from an extra pair of hands here for some parts.

6. Making the Body - Part 1
Time to get sculpting with modelling chocolate to create the body. Definitely worth spending time here to get the desired shape and always worth getting a nice slim waist as its the first thing your client will look at.

7. Making the Body - Part 2

8. The Bodice
This is where you look to match a specific dress. You can spend hours here getting every little detail, but you can get a very good likeness without spending too much time using layers of thinly rolled sugar paste and eye for detail.

9. Adding the Pleats
Adding pleat decoration to the bodice gives it that much desired likeness to the actual dress your cake is based on.
12:04
10. Finishing the Dress
Paul uses a bit of poetic license here as he isn’t copying a specific dress design so exercises the designers prerogative and changes a couple of things and adds the bow for decoration and realism.

11. Covering the Board - Part 1
Covering the base of the stand and decorating the board shows the dress off to its very best.

14. Other Ideas
Paul shares some other ideas (some mentioned throughout the course) this cake can be made into, perhaps a Christmas tree cake just in time for Christmas?

The Wedding Shower Cake is a great wedding dress cake for wedding shower celebrations (a trend new to the United Kingdom), the cake can be based on the bride to be’s actual wedding dress to give it that great personal touch and enormous wow factor for everyone who sees it! This cake is also a floating and spinning cake! Details about the mount/stand used and where to order one can be found in the Tools list underneath the video.
