When Carla Puig taught at Zoe’s Fancy Cakes in Leeds, the class was dominant with PBSS students wanting to create “Nadine” and “Steampunk Lady”, so Cake Life asked them for their hints and tips as a result of Carla’s class.
Maria Ditch of Dellissima Cakes said the class was extremely invigorating and intense and taught her to push herself onto a higher level, she never thought was possible!
Maria’s most important lesson is that through making mistakes, she could learn more about this art and create a masterpiece she didn’t think she could ever do.
Maria also said thank you to CakeFlix for creating an exciting new world of sugarcraft education, giving her the confidence to attend such a professional course, thank you Maria!
Julie Rogerson of Julies Cake In A Box said ‘To learn from one of the best was an amazing experience’ and advised when dusting build up the colours gradually until you achieve the result you require.
Steampunk Lady By Sarah Lou Smith
Sarah Lou Smith of Sensational Sugar Art chose the Steampunk Lady course by Carla.
Sarah said:
“The top tip I learnt from this class is the tiny details to make a sculpted face look more realistic. I would highly recommend a hands on class with Carla, as you learn so much more when you are watching Carla sculpt in person and can get advice on your own piece as you work on it”
Carla Wields The Knife Like A Surgeon
Victoria Imeson of I Bake A Bit gave such a vivid description of Carla with her knife!
“Walk away, Stand Back and then look, it’s amazing what you can see when you aren’t 6” away from the piece and Be Brave, Carla wields the knife like a surgeon, and encouraged us to not be afraid of making a change”
Victoria said “It was a fantastic experience, Carla is warm, friendly, supportive and funny as well as being a fantastic teacher, she was able to bring the best out in everyone, novice or more experienced alike and gave everyone the 1-1 time that they needed so we all came away with something we are extremely proud of”
Thank you Victoria!
First Time Face Modelling
Lorriane McGarry of Lorraine’s Cakes Doncaster still can’t believe she achieved to create this bust! First time modelling in a professionally taught class, Lorraine’s top tips are:
” Make the eyes a couple of days in advance from sugar paste and paint them and then spray with shell and shine so that when you come to inserting them you don’t smudge all your work or squash the eyes.
Although this class was intensive and there was a lot to take in, Carla broke each step down and made it easy to follow with the end result a bust to be proud of”
