Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Badge impression
Hi, I have been asked for a Royal marine cake! I am planning to do a beret, I have the cap badge which I have pressed into some old fondant, which I am now leaving to dry…and I hope I can put some fresh fondant in it and get an impression out, do you think this will work, I do not have an edible silicone to make a mould..any tips? Thanks

could I pour in cake lace, or would it never come out?
It failed, the cake lace made the fondant mould wet, good idea while it lasted!
Yes it worked really well from dried gum paste, better than I expected. As I have a land rover cake to do next, now thinking of finding a toy to make a wheel impression, has Paul done any cars?
(By the way madeitwithlove do you ever stop?!)
Hi Sue-Wales
That’s exactly what I used to do before I started making my own silicone moulds. I learned it from Verusca Walker here http://cakesdecor.com/entries/460-make-your-own-mould-with-leftover-fondant
Hope it helps. x
Try it, you’d only need to use a little so not too much waste. I haven’t got any dried sugarpaste moulds otherwise I’d try it out for you. You would need to air dry it because the fondant mould can’t be baked. Dust the mould with cornflour and see whether that stops the cake lace sticking. I’d love to know the results so feed back would be great. x
Aaaah, never mind, thank you so much for your feedback, at least we know for definite that cake lace won’t work.
Did you try making the mould from dried gumpaste?
Paul has made the jeep cake, this will be perfect guide for your land rover wheels. He’s also done the vintage car and the VW Beetle. For farming enthusiasts the tractor cake. There’s lots of choice,

Yeah I do stop sometimes, especially at the moment. I’m in the middle of doing wedding and christening decorations.
I had a bad accident back in September and smashed up my leg and ankle so it’s good to have something to do since I’m not mobile outside. I did go to the cake show though with my poor hubby pushing me in the wheel chair. It’s going to be a two year + recovery so very happy to have a distraction.
Glad the mould worked out for you. I’ve also used fancy shaped biscuit and chocolate box linings to make moulds in. I always roll out the paste and lay it inside the mould rather than stuff in a a big piece of paste, saves a fortune. xx
I had forgotten about the jeep that will be fab, I put in ‘car’ into seach courses but it did not come up.
Sorry to hear about your accident MIWL, get well soon, the info you provide here is amazing, thank you
Best wishes MiwL, get better soon
Thank you for your wishes. I hope you get your land rover wheels done ok, there’s so much on this site it’s mind boggling! Have a great week x
