Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Boxing ring cake
i have been asked to make a boxing ring cake with the boxer figures standing on the cake. I don’t feel like I can make the boxers myself out of sugar paste and wondered where I can order the ready made figures from?I’ve looked but can’t find anywhere. Also, does anyone have any ideas on how I can make the corner posts for the ring? Going to use liquorice for the ropes.

I’ve had a quick look and couldn’t find anything suitable either. You could try one of the bigger toy shops for plastic figures but an alternative might be to ask another local cake decorator if they could make and sell you the figurines. I recently did this for a lady who makes beautiful cakes but isn’t confident doing modelling, although it was a baby and a teddy bear! For the posts I would use cake pop sticks. You could also use dowels but the ropes might slide down those.
PS you could phone your local branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild if you don’t know of anyone who could make the figures. I’m sure they would be happy to help.
Hi there
Don’t know if I’m too late with an answer. There’s a programme called Cake Boss on the TLC channel on Sky and they use a product for making structures out of rice krispies, marshmallow and butter but I can not for the life of me remember what they call it. It sets quite hard by the looks of it so it should give good support. I’ve just googled rice krispie and marshmallow and there are plenty of recipes for it on the internet. Thought that might be useful for the post. If you do use dowel you could try putting holes in them and then you can thread your liquorice through them? The also use a lot of modelling chocolate when making figures and then paint them after they have made them. They seem to use florist wire to make a basic stick person and then put the modelling chocolate around it and then mold it in to shape.
Hope all that helps.
Donna
Thanx I’ll try and find the rice crispie recipe and have a try at different ways of making the posts.
There’s a RKT recipe here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/rice-krispy-treats
