Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Buttercream cake and flowers
I am making a cake that will be iced with buttercream, I will be making the flowers, but am concerned about placing them near buttercream in case they go soft, I will be using flower paste, will I attach them with royal icing as a barrier so as not to touch the cake, will this be ok.
Thank you,

Hi nicky223
My apologies for this lateish reply. As long as the buttercream has crusted well, the flowers should be fine. If you’d like to take a little more precaution, paint the backs of flowers with a little candy melts. This will form a barrier between the buttercream and flowers. If possible, try and attach the flowers as close to the event as you can. Hope this helps.
🙂
Thank you,
