Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Cake courses
Hello all, I am new to cake decorating, and am considering joining the monthly online course. I know that it was said that there are courses for all skill levels, however I was wondering how many of them are for beginners such as myself? I just want to make sure that there are enough easy lessons to make it worth the monthly fee. I would hate to pay a lot of money for courses that I’m not ready for. Thanks!

I felt exactly the same minwatkins as a complete beginner, but the courses are really easy to follow and you can rewind as often as you need (I do it all the time). I’ve got a number of books with step by step instructions on creating figures and still find I come back to the site more often than not. Along with the Oracle that is madeitwithlove, Paul’s tuition has proved to be invaluable and money well spent.
Hi miniwatkins
As a beginner you already have access to the free tutorial library here http://www.cakeflix.com/free-online-cake-decorating-courses These lessons are the building blocks to further your skills to the challenges of the tutorials in the main library. Having said that most of the tutorials are easily do-able by beginners. When I joined two years ago I didn’t have a clue about decorating a cake, now I have skills for which I have waited a life time!
Paul teaches in a very laid back way, there’s no pressure and you can play the videos back and forth 24/7 until you feel confident enough to tackle a tutorial in full. The online community is always on hand to answer any questions you may have or just for reassurance. The site has lots beginners ( some who are not such beginners now), many have gone on to win competitions and open up their own home baking and decorating businesses. You certainly will not be wasting your fees, this site is like no other, no one else offers the amount of tutorials per week and a loaded library for such a reasonable charge. This has got to be the home of easy learning and you won’t be disappointed. You’ll find your membership options here http://www.cakeflix.com/membership-options I’m sure there will be other members who will testify to the great learning experience this site offers. See you in the tutorials and Q & A ?? xx
Thanks so much for your comments. I was truly hoping you would say that, as I REALLY want to learn cake decorating! I am very encouraged by your comments, and I too hope to gain much knowledge from Paul and all of staff and other decorators out there! Thanks again and I look forward to learning from all of you!
Oh I forgot to mention the extra mini tutorials and useful information in the blog section of the site. I also want to add that I had attended many day workshops before finding this site. Each workshop cost me in excess of £100.00 and I learned very little, here you have daily workshops in detail for a nominal fee. You”ll learn more than a lot. Paul hides nothing, he generously shares everything and takes the mystery out this craft.
That is good to know, thanks! Sounds like there is plenty for the new cake decorator, not just for those with experience.
Hi minwatkins
I can recommend joining the site – I joined when it started and have learned so…. much from Paul. I have also learned a lot from reading the questions and answers. There is a huge amount of knowledge that has accumulated in this section. Give it a go and you will probably get hooked on cake decorating as I have been. You can always cancel if it does not work out for you so nothing ventured..
Thanks for the encouragement gracecay & pixie dell! I have decided to get the membership, and see what I can learn in a year’s time. I imagine I will have lots of questions for all of you experienced decorators! I look forward learning from you all!
