Cake quantities

Hi I’ve been looking at Paul’s chocolate cake recipe & wanted to make an 8″ & 6″ tier. I’ve used the reckoner as suggested working from a 10″square as the original tin size. I’m assuming you times each ingredient for each inch size & then add them together. Is this right? Every recipe I’ve ever used is always for 8″ tins and I’m interested in using different tins as I’ve recently started a cake course where we predominately use 6″ cakes.
