Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Cake Stand Hire
Not a decorating question I know, but I am doing a weeding cake in September that will have a 12″ base layer on a 14″ board. The bride is having a sort of vintage afternoon tea=party type theme and would love her cake to be on a ceramic/porcelain pedestal stand, however I am struggling to find one with a 14″ dia :-S Anyone have any tips for suppliers/hirer places I could obtain 1 from??
Thanks

Hi Jean28
I’ve never done this myself before but i had been advised from a friend to ask in local bakerys/cake shops as they sometimes hire out their stands.
Other than that you’d maybe get a good deal for buying on on Amazon/Ebay
Good luck finding one!
Think ‘out of the box’ I have a ceramic fruit stand that would be just perfect. Go to the big department stores, they are currently full of all sorts of vintage table ware.
There is a web site called Preloved that has a wealth of items for sale

Hi Jean
If you have a John Lewis store near you it might be worth having a look at what they have. Online they have a 31cm glass stand, but I know when I’ve wanted something that hasn’t been online I’ve either contacted them or popped into the store and they’ve managed to get what I want. They may be able to get you one and best of all they deliver virtually the next day. Other good places to try are antique shops and auction houses. Small crafty type shops might keep ornate ceramic stands. It’s frustrating when you can’t find the right thing, but you still have time on your side and you may get lucky. Hope some of my suggestions help. Good luck. just thought, good car boot sales as well!
