cake tiers sizing

i am making a 2 tier christening cake 8inch and 6 inch.just baked the cakes today in 2 inch deep sandwich tins and if i trim the tops off i will only have 1 and a half inch layers. shall i bake another layer??? what depth tiers do you advise for the cakes??

Hi elaine77

I always make three layers; with filling, ganache crumb coat and icing, I get a cake approximately five inches deep. Depending on the filling, sometimes, six inches deep. You can control the height you prefer . ?
