I have a recipe for an 8 inch square cake that I would like to use to make a 9 x13 inch cake how do I calculate this

The square pan closest to a 9 x 13 oblong is an 11-inch square. To calculate, all you do is multiply length x breadth to get the surface area. In this case 9 x 13 = 117 and 11 x 11 = 121.
