Calculating baking time

I am making the chocolate cake and have converted the quantities to a 12 inch x 3 inch. How do I calculate the cooking time. Is there a formula I can use for other size cakes also?

HI alcalder5

There is no fixed formula for baking times as all ovens vary. All that can be done is to follow the timing for the original recipe of two hours and make adjustment for the additional amount of mixture in the scaled up recipe. The chocolate cake recipe also fits into one 10″ square tin and bakes for approx two hours. The scaled up recipe for 12″ cake has approxmately 13% more mixture for which, between an extra 10 minutes to half an hour of baking may be enough. However, this is just a guide as your own oven may either bake faster or slightly longer. The only way to find out how long a recipe takes to bake is to go ahead and bake it.
