I don’t seem to be able to get the silver leaf (transfer) to come off the backing paper. It will not come off whole. What am i doing wrong? Can you get a dodgy batch?

It may be because some part of the icing is not suffciently wet enough to allow all the silver leaf to adhere. The icing should be sticky but not wet. Try working in small sections to prevent the icing drying.
Use a large, soft round brush to smooth the paper to ensure maximum tack and then gently peel back. If it comes off in pieces just fill in by overlapping and smoothing to get an even finish.

I’ve never had a ‘dodgy’ batch of gold or silver leaf but I guess any thing is possible!
