Carousel cake- dowelling rods

Hi

Can anyone tell me why 14 dowelling rods are listed in tools required for the carousel cake? Should the centre column have dowelling rods (from column to cake below)?

Thanks madeitwithlove, , I thought I’d missed it in the tutorial but that explains it.

Originally Paul was going to make more horses than used in the tutorial. The extra dowels were for the centre poles which didn’t get used.
