Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Children’s Cake Classes
Hi, I am hoping to run children’s cake decorating classes in the North East of Scotland and I would like to ask what you think people would be willing to pay? There seems to be other people doing similar things down south and are charging about £25. I am proposing that the class would last 1 1/2 hours and the kids would get 6 cupcakes to decorate and take home and enjoy. Would cover butter icing and simple fondant figures. I have priced up: 6 cakes each, icing, cupcake box, venue hire, 2 adult staff etc. and its coming out at about £20 per child with a profit margin of aprox. 15%. That is based on 10- 12 children. Any suggestions/ feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mini Bakes
This http://www.netmums.com/edinburgh/local/view/after-school-activities/cookery/eskbank-cakes-sugar-craft-and-cup-cake-classes is a similar sort of set up in and around Scotland. I’ve seen other workshops which charge £10.00 per child however students bring their own cupcakes for decorating + own boxes. This is done presumably to cut the cost of classes.
