CHOCLOATE MOIST CAKE ….AGAIN
hiya i have a teddy order and i have been out a brought the closest thing i could fine to an 8′ by 10′ square pan … i hope i have it right because its not actually square its more like a rectangle and i measured it to be 8′ vertically and 10′ going horizontal i didn’t measure the depth but it looks about 3 -4 inches. now am i on the right track?? also when watching paul make his moist chocolate cake he shares the mixture between 2 pans so now i am all confused as to how much ingredients i should be using for an 8’x10′ square. the last time i did this i just winged it and used a different sized pans and it tasted nice but wasn’t any good for carving as it didn’t have the thickness so ended up being very crumbly. i’ve looked at a couple of conversion charts like the ones posted on here but because he used 2 tins and divided his cake mix i’m left all confused. so could anybody help in telling me the measurements i need to make my moist chocolate cake ready for carving my teddy please xxx

Hello pistolaki
If you go back to the tutorial for Paul’s moist chocolate cake http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/free/moist-chocolate-recipe#ingredients, look in the tab that says ingredients, you’ll see that the whole receipe can be baked in a 10″ square tin, so you don’t have to convert anything. If you bake it in a 10″ tin all you have to do is either cut the extra 2″ off to make 10 x 8 or just carve the teddy templates from the whole cake. You’ll have some left over from which you could either make cake pops or enjoy it yourself with a cuppa. If you want to use the tin you’ve just bought use the cakeometre http://www.cakeflix.com/blog/how-to-work-out-what-size-cake-tin-to-use to make the conversion You’ll find the link just below the ready reckoner tabs. If you need more information please post again.
oooh do you know i just went back and had a look and saw it says that … silly me not reading through properly! :/ i’m still confused though is my pan wrong? which extra 2 inches? when they say about cake tin measurements where is the 8 and where is the 10 so sorry if i sound clueless (i kind of am though) haha x
The pan which you have bought is the correct size but you will now have to convert the recipe which is for 10″ square in the cakeometre to fit 10 x 8. Hope you’re less confused now, but if you need it converted for you please post again. x
hahaha i scare myself sometimes…. :/ i’m blaming baby brain 🙂 thanks for your help and patience madeitwithlove x
I’m gonna come over and sort you out Miss Scatter brain!!!! What are you like!! xx
