Colouring Chocolate Black

Hi, I am making a shoe box cake and trying to find out how to colour chocolate black for the shoe, I have seen americolour but unable to buy in black and worried if eaten due to regulations in UK.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Nicky

Hello Nicky

If you’re making modelling chocolate how about using black candy melts instead? Both Wilton and PME make black candy melts. Google ‘black candy melts’ to see the brands.
If you’d prefer to make your own black colour start with the darkest chocolate you can buy and then colour it with black petal dust rather than gel colours.

Hope I’ve understood your question correctly. If not please let me know if I can help any other way.

Thanks, it is to fill a mould and decorate. Thought a black shoe would look better. I read about candy melts but the reviews say it is more a grey than a black. Thanks

The colour could be deepend in the same way with the petal dust. Petal dust won’t affect the consistency of the chocolate in the same way as gel colours. I hope you manage to make the correct shade.
