Covering Cake pops

Hello, I have some questions please I need your help. I’m making cake pops TODAY and I have some last minute questions:

I would like to know if is possible to cover cake pops with fondant and if so, how to do it? Is it possible to melt the fondant in the microwave, add water and then dip the cake pops in it??

If I cover the cake pops with candy melt how can I attached the fondant figures that I made with plunger cutters ???
please answer me as soon as possible 🙂 thanks !!

Hello Solanchbusto

I expect you have already made and covered your cake pops. However just to answer your question, yes you can cover cake pops with fondant. Cut a cirlce of fondant bigger than the cake pop, brush the pop with a little water and wrap it in the fondant circle, smoothing the cut edges underneath. Stand the pops up until the fondant is dry then stick embellisments on with a little melted chocolate or royal icing. There is a lovely tutorial in youtube by Rose Warnick if you search ‘ how to make bauble cake’. You’ll see loads of other tutorials. I wouldn’t recommend trying to melt the fondant in the microwave, it is likely to burn and go black and it certainly will not dilute well with water in that state! You can use pouring fondant, this is not the same as rolling fondant. Depending on where you are based, pouring fondant can be purchased in packets in powder form, it looks like confectioners sugar/icing sugar and is made up with water to a paste consistency.
The packet looks like this in the UK and is found in the same supermarket aisle as icing sugar:

There are lots of recipes online on how to make it from scratch by googling ‘ recipe for poured fondant’. I think it’s just too messy to make at home when it can be bought ready made.

The quickest and easiest way to cover cake pops is by dipping them in melted chocolate or candy melts. Candy melts come in a variety of colours making them fun to make. Again, there is a mountain of information online on using candy melts and dipping cake pops. Embellisments can be stuck on with same colour melted chocolate or attached while the cake pops are still wet from the melted chocolate.
Paul also has a tutorial on site, you’ll find it here:

Christmas Cake Pops

It may not be exactly what you are looking for but at least you can see how easy it is to use chocolate and cut out decorations.

Hope some of the above information helps. I’m sorry you’ve had to wait so long for your answer. Enjoy your cake popping and dipping. x
