Cut to size cake board

Hi

I’ve had to cut a 10″ board down to make it 8″. This has now exposed the card that was protected by the silver foil. As the cake going on the board is to be covered in buttercream do I need to do something with the exposed card board? If so, any suggestions to what I should use? Any help greatly appreciated as I’m decorating the cake tomorrow (Fri, 1 July)!

Thank you

Liz

Hi Liz

If you have an exposed rim on the board it would be more attractive to cover it up with a ribbon.
( I hope I am understanding your question correctly)

Sorry, I didn’t make my question clear. The exposed rim won’t be on show as the buttercream will be covering it, but I’m not sure whether I should cover the exposed rim with something to prevent the buttercream being in direct contact with the card that’s been exposed (the board is a thin card, not drum).

Thank you.

Right, now I get it! I don’t think it needs covering since it’s so thin. If you feel uncomfortable with it, seal the edge with some stiff buttercream and let it set in fridge to seal the rim before placing the cake on the card.

Thank you so much. I’d thought of so many different ways but the one you suggest had never crossed my mind and makes perfect sense.

Thanks again, really appreciate your help.
