Does anybody know how long a cake decorated and filled with buttercream can stay out at room temperature for until it is unsafe to eat.

Hello nigel-mellon
It will stay fine for several days at room temperature. You’ll know if it’s not fit to eat as the butter in the cream will begin to taste rancid. Keep the cake covered up if you can to prevent the cake from staling.
Hi
Thanks for your reply, Just wasn’t sure because being a chef we have to keep all dairy products in the fridge. And being new to cake decorating I don’t want to make say a teddy cake for a kids birthday maybe decorated the day before and make them ill.
You’ll be fine, if in doubt keep it in a cool place but not in the fridge if you’re covering the cake with sugar paste.
Don’t put milk in the butter cream if you need to loosen it up a little use a tablespoon full of warm water.
