does fondant and jam & cream filling go together??

Im making a 3D cake for a friend she wants vanilla sponge with jam and cream filling, but because of the type of cake i need to use buttercream and fondant on top to decorate. Would all of these go together or not?

Hi amydurham

They all go perfectly together. The majority of bakers use butter cream and jam filling and cover with fondant, ganache is an alternative if it is preferred.

thankyou they requested jam and cream so i might go the jam and buttercream alternative 🙂

Hi
I use Raspberry jam with my buttercream and fondant and it is lovely.

If the customer requests jam and cream then that is what they should have. Buttercream and cream are not the same in taste (but as she is a friend you might talk her round). It might help us if you explain what you are doing.

im making a 3D giggle and hoot cake using buttercream for decorating on the outside so i just wanted to know if layering it with jam and cream on the inside would taste ok with the buttercream on the outside

I had to Google giggle and hoot :-). I personally would eat it (and prefer cream and jam) but then that doesn’t say much! I have noticed a lot of people seem to leave most of the fondant uneaten but as it’s a children’s cake they love sweet things. Do what you thinks best. Buttercream would leave you more time to assemble cake and refrigerating wouldn’t be necessary. Good luck!
