Yesterday I used Dove Grey sugarpaste for a wedding cake, which looks purple now its dry. Is there anything I can do to turn it grey? The wedding is next weekend so have limited time to work on it.
Thanks

Hi Angieboo
Did you make it yourself or is it a bought brand? If you’re making it yourself the black colour which is added to the white is composed of several colours. These can separate out while the colour is developing. I’ve read on other forums that adding a little yellow may help restore it back to grey. Another factor that can change the colour is the difference in pH between the dye solution and the finished sugarpaste. Adding a little baking soda to the icing might resolve this. If the icing is a bought brand, it would be best to ask for more product information from the supplier. Please let me know if this helps at all or if you need more information.
Thank you for you reply. It was shop bought so I guess there’s not much I can do, I’m really worried the bride and groom are going to hate it. I thought of getting some grey lustre dust but this might go patchy! Dilemma!!
How have you stored the cakes. Just wondering since you have mentioned the wedding is not until next weekend. Are they fruit cakes?
In cake boxes, they are Madeira and have done this before and been fine. It’s just the colour issue.
It’s a weird one! which brand is it? I think you may have to re-ice if it really is so beyond the dove grey. I can’t even suggest which colour to dust it with or even if it would lighten the purple. My best suggestion would be to contact either the manufacturere or the supplier.
